FAQs

Have questions about how MI2 initiatives work or how to get involved? Here’s what you need to know about participating in and supporting our statewide efforts.

What is an MI2 initiative?

An initiative is a focused program led by MI2 in collaboration with industry, government, and education partners. Each one is designed to solve a specific challenge—like workforce development, tech adoption, or sustainability—and produce real outcomes across the metals sector.

Who can participate in an initiative?

Participation is open to MI2 members, partners, and collaborators across Kentucky’s metals ecosystem—including manufacturers, educators, startups, workforce leaders, and public agencies.

How are initiatives selected or started?

Initiatives begin with industry input. MI2 works directly with employers and stakeholders to identify shared challenges and opportunities, then co-designs pilots that can scale across the state.

Can my company bring an idea to MI2?

Yes! We welcome new ideas and encourage members to bring forward challenges, technologies, or workforce needs. MI2 is designed to be a launchpad for industry-informed innovation.

Where can I learn more about specific initiatives?

Each strategic focus area—like Talent & Workforce or Tech Innovation—has its own page with examples, goals, and current programs. Scroll up to explore each initiative in detail.
