The MI2 team recently welcomed Logan Aluminum retiree Laura Haury as the organization’s sustainability project coordinator — and the announcement had the metals and recycling community buzzing.
Haury’s role is one of the only positions of its kind in Kentucky, intentionally designed to bridge manufacturing operations, environmental stewardship, and public education. News of her appointment reached nearly 500,000 readers nationwide and was featured in:
“Aluminum recycling and all metals recovery are critical to our industry, our economy and our environment," Haury says. “Helping our children to learn the importance of recycling and giving them the tools to become lifelong recyclers equals sustainability. MI2's plan, in partnership with The Recycling Society, is to take the program we've developed in our region to the whole commonwealth and really make a difference in recycling rates.”
Laura is an Environmental Engineer with more than 35 years of manufacturing and consulting experience and a lifelong passion for protecting our environment. Based in Kentucky, she brings deep expertise in aluminum recycling from her career at Logan Aluminum, an MI2 founding member. At Logan Aluminum, she most recently served as Senior Environmental Engineer before retiring after more than 18 years of environmental leadership.
The media coverage underscores not only the significance of Laura’s appointment, but also the growing momentum around sustainability leadership in the state. Being highlighted across respected state, national, and industry outlets amplifies MI2’s mission and signals that Kentucky is playing a meaningful role in shaping the future of responsible manufacturing. The attention affirms that this work — connecting industry expertise with environmental stewardship — resonates far beyond our region.
