The Kentucky Council for Postsecondary Education (CPE) has emerged as a leading force in fostering educational excellence in Kentucky. One such initiative that highlights the CPE’s commitment to these goals is the partnership between the organization and the Metals Innovation Initiative. This collaboration holds immense significance for postsecondary education and the economy in Kentucky, addressing critical needs, promoting workforce development, and cultivating a thriving educational landscape.As the coordinating board overseeing Kentucky's state universities and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the CPE plays a pivotal role in shaping and guiding postsecondary education in the state. It not only ensures the quality and coordination of educational programs but also licenses non-profit and for-profit higher education institutions to operate in Kentucky.The decline in the college-going rate from 59.3% to 53.8% since AY 2017 has raised concerns about the future prospects of Kentucky's workforce and economy. The CPE recognizes the urgent need to address this issue and is actively engaged in several statewide initiatives aimed at increasing the number of Kentuckians completing postsecondary credentials.The collaboration between CPE and the Metals Innovation Initiative is a testament to the organization’s shared vision of equipping Kentucky's workforce with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the modern economy. By bringing together the educational and industrial sectors, this partnership fosters campus and industry connections that are vital for driving innovation, promoting job creation, and addressing workforce shortages.The CPE's public awareness campaign, "Higher Education Matters," serves as a cornerstone in their efforts to promote college-going and highlight the value of higher education to Kentucky's residents and economy. This is just one of many projects CPE is working on. CPE's External Relations & Economic Partnerships office holds monthly meetings with Campus Career Services and Campus Career Development leaders to provide a valuable platform for advocacy, collaboration, conversation, and professional development. Dr. Rick Smith, CPE's Vice President of External Relations and Economic Partnerships and MI2 board member, serves on numerous boards throughout the state and speaks to various stakeholders about the value of campus and industry partners.The partnership between the Kentucky Council for Postsecondary Education and the Metals Innovation Initiative is an example of collaboration driving positive change. By promoting postsecondary education, addressing workforce shortages, and fostering innovation, this partnership is crucial to shaping Kentucky's educational landscape and economy.
